Red Dirt Friday, Vol. 1

I've mentioned before how much I LOVE red dirt music. I'm sure some of you are reading this and are thinking, "What the heck is 'Red Dirt'?" It's also called Texas Country - but either way, it's awesome!live

I got into this genre in college, my friends introduced me within my first month and BAM I was hooked.

So, according to Wikipedia: "Red Dirt Music is a music genre that gets its name from the color of soil found in Oklahoma. Although Stillwater, Oklahoma is considered to be the center of Red Dirt music,[1] there's a Texas Red Dirt sound as well."

Red Dirt Music is kind of indie country music if you will. I think I like it so much because the musicians sound the same way on the radio that they do in concert.

Screen shot 2013-02-21 at 5.28.37 PMI asked my Facebook friends last week what their favorite Red Dirt songs were, and got some really good answers - Cross Canadian Ragweed, Reckless Kelly, Casey Donahew Band and Stoney LaRue seemed to be the favorites.

As you can see, the song that got me hooked on the genre is "Alabama" by Cross Canadian Ragweed.

Take a listen to these bands and let me know your thoughts. OR - share with me, what's your favorite Red Dirt Country song?

Happy listening,
Robin
